Host Annie Leonard takes viewers from the mines and factories where our gadgets begin to the horrific backyard recycling shops in China where many end up. The film concludes with a call for a green 'race to the top' where designers compete to make long-lasting, toxic-free products that are fully and easily recyclable. Our production partner on the electronics film is the Electronics TakeBack Coalition, which promotes green design and responsible recycling in the electronics industry.

	Living Planet Report 2010
	Die Menschheit lebt über ihre Verhältnisse, dies ist die zentrale Botschaft des „Living Planet Reports 2010", den der WWF heute vorgestellt hat. Der Bestand von 2.500 ausgewählten Tierarten, die charakteristisch für die unterschiedlichen Land-, Meeres- und Süßwasserökosysteme der Erde sind, ist seit den 70er Jahren im Schnitt um rund 30 Prozent zurückgegangen. In den Tropen ist der natürliche Reichtum sogar noch stärker eingebrochen. Hier gingen die Populationsgrößen um fast 60 Prozent zurück. Der Living Planet Report dokumentiert, dass die Ursache für den Artentod im wachsenden Hunger nach Rohstoffen und natürlichen Ressourcen. „Um die Nachfrage nach Nahrung, Energieträgern und anderen natürlichen Rohstoffen zu decken, bräuchte man schon jetzt einen zweiten Planeten", betont Eberhard Brandes, Vorstand des WWF Deutschland. Der scheinbare Wohlstand in den Ländern mit hohem Einkommen werde mit dem biologischen Reichtum u.a. der Tropen erkauft. Auch Deutschland gehöre zu den ökologischen Schuldnerländern. „Wir leben in einer trügerischen Ruhe", warnt Eberhard Brandes. „Der Living Planet Report zeigt deutlich, dass es höchste Zeit ist, Lösungen zu entwickeln, wie die wachsenden Bedürfnisse der Weltbevölkerung mit den vorhandenen Rohstoffen gedeckt werden können.
